What’s on in Northampton?

Northampton Comic Con
When: Saturday 16th – Sunday 17th September 2017
Where: Northants Cricket The County Ground in Northampton

A huge event for the town of Northampton, NCC is back and bigger than ever this year for its third iteration. Of course, no ‘con’ is worth its salt without a host of actors from film and TV, comic book artists, props, and guest talks. If you’re a Cosplayer, you’re of course welcome to attend in your finest outfit, and even try your chances in the Cosplay contest! The great thing about NCC is the size – large enough to keep revellers entertained, small enough to not becoming overwhelming like some of the larger expos. It’s a fantastic day or weekend out for the very dedicated con-goers, and casual fans alike.

Alderton Art Festival
When: Saturday 2nd September – Sunday 3rd September 2017
Where:  St Margarets Church in Alderton

Just south of Northampton town is the charming and historic village of Alderton, home to the highly-acclaimed Alderton Art Festival held at St Margaret’s Church, now in its 41st year. Home to some 200-odd pictures painted by local artists, with many more unframed prints available. Just £1 entry (with free parking) gets you in, as you peruse the local art, take in some local entertainment, snag a few second hand books or sample some home-made delicacies. Northamptonshire is home to some serious artistic talent, and the Alderton Art Festival brings the Northamptonshire community together to celebrate art in all its forms – and, arguably some of the best baked goods in the country!

In Conversation With Jasmina Cibic & Topical Devices Exhibition
When: Friday 15th September 2017
Where: NN Contemporary Art

Contemporary artist Jasmina Cibic is holding a talk all about her current exhibition hosted at NN Contemporary Art Northampton, covering the nuances and moments of her current practice. Several factors come to play with her striking exhibition: firstly, the prominence of female figures – whether mute, dancing, used as decoration, and secondly, Cibic’s use of fragmentation to playfully dissect the idea of art as a ‘whole’ and a ‘part’. Her work is always context specific, so it is an exhibition, and talk, that anyone with the slightest interest in art will find mesmerising and unforgettable.
